As a professional musician I primarily work as not only a freelance drummer, performing with a variety of artists and bands, but also as a drum tutor. As an educator my priority has always been to provide students with enjoyable material that appeals to their interests. My theory is that enjoyment is naturally the first step towards progression in any skill.
Having spent the last decade studying at a number of Music Institutes and learning from highly respected musicians within the music industry, I have shaped my own teaching approach into one that is patient, informative and enjoyable.
I primarily use the ‘Rockschool’ grading curriculum as a system to work through, and have coached students to achieve Distinction’s and High Merit grades. Alternatively I have also used the ‘Trinity Guildhall’ grading curriculum for students who wish to take the drumming grade of their choice.
For the students who do not wish to take grades and exams I have years of experience in tailoring my lessons to each individual student. This could potentially cover anything from learning a variety of genres and styles, learning the drum parts to a students favourite song, working on specific problems that a student is finding within their playing or focussing on a specific playing situation or environment that the student would like to work on.
